Highlights and takeaways from KBIS 2017 and NKBA

March 22, 2017

Interview segment as part of Editor at Large's coverage at KBIS 2017.  I was honored to be interviewed alongside such great executive members of the NKBA, This Old House etc. on the topic of KBIS attendance.  I love the experience of attending KBIS, it's a few days a year that I get to spend a lot of time with people I have befriended from all over North America.  It is a chance to be amongst like minds and to celebrate the greatness of our industry and the future it is heading in.

Details of award winners and judges

January 12, 2017

I was lucky enough be be part of a small select group of industry representatives to judge and award the best innovative products at KBIS 2017.  This group had the opportunity to meet with many of the inventors and key designers for the next great kitchen and bath products of tomorrow.

The experience allowed myself to see the show in a new light even after over 10 years of attendance, I was able to dive deeper into products that I wouldn't have necessarily had the chance to stop and see.

I had the opportunity to be a part of a Modenus Talks event back on January 19, 2015.  Myself along with 75 other members of the interior design community gathered prior to the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) and International Builders Show (IBS) in Las Vegas, Nevada to openly discuss the importance of design.

The event included presentations by ASID CEO Randy Fiser and Color 911 founder Amy Wax.  It also included break out sessions, brain storming and team design concept production using elements we discovered in our previous break out sessions.

Veronika Miller continues to provide outstanding opportunities for the interior design community not only with in person interactive events such as this, but also through her blog, blog tours, design milk  and Modenus Talks twitter events. (www.modenus.com)

GE Monogram Blog Interview

September 30, 2014

Megan with GE Monogram took the time to interview me after the week I spent in Louisville, Kentucky touring and training with the Monogram product  in the GE Monogram Experience center.  A large group of the NKBA 30 under 30s from the 2014 class had the opportunity to travel to Louisville to dive deep into the world of GE Monogram, intense training was rewarded with amazing meals cooked in front of us in the GE Monogram test kitchens.

The experience opened my eyes to new and innovative products I could easily see myself specifying for future clients, and and in fact the following winter I put in my own Advantium speed oven which was a decision I had already made before I got back on a plane to fly back to Oregon.

Interview with Professional Remodeler Magazine

July 08, 2014

Professional Remodeler Magazine interviewed myself and Zak Fleming  owner of Fleming Construction from Des Moines, Iowa who also was part of the 40 under 40 recipients from 2014.

We discussed successful business practices, challenges of starting a remodeling business and all the struggles of dealing with these things while being under the age of 40.

2014 was a career changing year for me, immediately following recognition of the NKBA's 30 under 30 award I was honored and surprised to be named part of Professional Remodeler Magazine's 40 under 40.  I was blown away when I pulled out my latest issue of Pro Remodeler to see my own face staring back at me from the cover.  The pool of talent that makes up this group goes beyond the capabilities of my vocabulary to properly represent just how exquisite and over the top they are.  They reach all corners of the remodeling industry and represent an endless number of trade specific roles.  To be named alongside these outstanding individuals was humbling and confidence building.

Google + hangout with John Petrie, Brian Pagel and Leanne Wood

May 30, 2014

As an immediate past 30 under 30 award recipient I was asked to join a Google+ Hangout session to help promote the next generation of 30 under 30 participants. The program featured at the time NKBA National President John Petrie and Brian Pagel (the man who makes KBIS function).  Leanne with Flying Camel Advertising does a great job of promoting the various programs presented at KBIS from voices of the industry, to 30 under 30 and the NKBA Design Competition.

November 30, 2015

In November of 2013 it was announced in a press release that I was selected as one of the 30 industry professionals under the age of 30 that would receive recognition for my work in the field of kitchen and bath.  Being named as one of the 30 representatives selected from nominations received from all over the United States and Canada was and continues to be an incredible honor and source of pride.

My fellow "30's" as we so admirably call each other have become amazing sources of inspiration and support. We have created an ever growing network of communal advice and group problem solving, and undoubtedly, amazing lifelong friendships.

The experience brought 3 groups of 10 individuals that stretched from the farthest coast lines of the US and Canada to create interactive and informative presentations on topics relevant and impactful to the kitchen and bath community.  Leadership, planning along with team building and patience was exercised to the extreme to create evocative and creative presentations to present to a full audience at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show in Las Vegas Nevada in early 2014.

This is a group that continues to be near and dear to my heart and I have had the pleasure of continuing to work with the NKBA on the 30 under 30 program nearly in the years that have followed my own personal experience.
